Jewellery Trend Predictions for 2018

Now that 2017’s nearly over, it is time to look at what’s in store for 2018 when it comes to jewellery.

As we prepare to put 2017 behind us, we're given the opportunity to reflect on the trends and styles of this year and forecast the vogue in jewellery for 2018. Last year,  we'd predicted blue sapphire and rose gold would be popular, and we weren't disappointed. Sapphire and rose gold will still have prominence in 2018, but time provokes change, and we know we'll see some more styles and trends evolve next year. Here are our jewellery predictions of 2018.

Statement and Hoop Earrings

We've seen statement jewellery litter the runways in New York, Milan, London and Paris, so expect to see big hoops and chandelier drop earrings make a comeback. Hoop earrings were especially prominent among African American women during the black power movement during the 1960's - political activist Angela Davis wore large hoops, along with singer Tina Turner.  Hoops and large earrings saw a resurgence in the ‘90's, where everything was oversized and outspoken. Trilogy Engagement Rings

Following the royal engagement of Suits star Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, we expect to see a resurgence in the three-stone engagement ring. The nation's favourite ginger gifted the humanitarian and actress a beautiful yellow gold trilogy ring, featuring two round-cut diamonds from his late Mother's jewellery collection, and a central cushion cut diamond from Botswana. Yellow Gold

The royal family hold a lot of influence when it comes to trends and fashion across the globe - fashion brands see it happen regularly with Kate Middleton, and the Meghan Markle effect is already in full swing. For example, a pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses Meghan wore to the Invictus Games in September saw a 1,000% increase in sales (Harper's Bazaar), and that stunning white jacket she wore during her photocall with Prince Harry, sold out in minutes. Following Pantone's 2018 colour predictions for 2018 (trendstop), we've got a few forecasts of what gemstones will rise in popularity next year. We still think blue sapphire will be prominent, along with the following jewels:

Black Diamonds

Black Navy is on the list of colour predictions, and we're in love with this dark colour that offers hope, with a slightly frosty feel. We first saw the black diamond ring come of age after Mr Big proposed to Carrie with one in the 2010 film, Sex and the City and we think the black diamond will see a resurgence. Black diamonds are as natural as any other diamond - they also offer a unique shine. Some black diamonds will often look similar to Black Navy - especially when the light hits the diamond's facets. Adorned by celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez, we're looking forward to seeing black diamond studs, bracelets and necklaces everywhere!

Red Rubies

Another prediction for Pantone's colour of the year is rich, sophisticated and passionate. Beetroot offers a homely and warming feel, much like a stunning red ruby. We cannot help but think of Dorothy's ruby slippers and her love of Kansas when we look at this beautiful colour. The red ruby is the colour of blood, fire and passion - similarly to Pantone's Beetroot. It is an emotionally intense colour that raises blood pressure and increases respiration rate. Yellow Diamonds

Yellow is a warm, vibrant colour that evokes feelings of happiness. Studies have shown that yellow helps to reduce feelings of anxiety, and helps promote positive energy - if you couldn't tell, Pantone's Sunglow Yellow really resonates with us! Yellow diamonds and gemstones offer spiritual positivity and are said to give relief from negative emotions and tiredness, and we think that the yellow diamond will see a rise in popularity. A little different to the brilliant white diamond, and not as cold as the black diamond, it promotes hope and love.
